Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational church movement focused on the inerrancy of the Bible and the expository teaching from Genesis to Revelation. Calvary Lawrence is a Calvary Chapel affiliated church.
Pastor Phillip Catterton has been in full time ministry since 2002.
He was born and raised in Texas. While in college at Trinity University in San Antonio, he stumbled into Calvary Chapel of San Antonio (CCSA). While there, he fell in love with his bible and felt the call to ministry.
He came on staff at CCSA as a teacher in their school in January 2002. He started as a 5th grade teacher, and then moved to 7th-12th grade, teaching various courses including AP Microeconomics and High School Bible. He also served as the school guidance counselor, with a focus on college admissions.
For CCSA, he served as the Joy of Jesus Coordinator, head of New Believers’ ministry, and the youth pastor. From August to November of 2006, he served as the interim pastor of Calvary Chapel Aggieland, in College Station, Texas. Phillip was ordained as an assistant pastor at CCSA in July of 2007.
He and his lovely wife, Kel, were married in March of 2002. Their daughter, Shiloh, and son, Ben, are a constant source of joy.
In January of 2011, Phillip felt the Lord stirring his heart when he read Hebrews 11:8, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” NIV
When the opportunity arose to pastor the church in Lawrence, Kansas, Phillip did what any man of faith would do: he Googled “Lawrence, Kansas.” When he and his family visited Lawrence and the church, it was love at first sight. Phillip is excited to reach out with the love of Jesus Christ to Lawrence and the KU community. He loves being in a university town and is thrilled to see what the Lord will do through simply teaching the bible simply.
Calvary Lawrence has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the body of Christ. We believe that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is His (Agape) love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.
- We Believe: worship of God should be Spiritual. Therefore: We remain flexible and yielded to the Holy Spirit to direct our worship
- We Believe: worship of God should be Inspirational. Therefore: We give a great place to music in our worship
- We Believe: worship of God should be Intelligent. Therefore: Our services are designed with great emphasis upon teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshiped
- We Believe: worship of God is Fruitful. Therefore: We look for His Love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshiping Him
